Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Please begin by double-checking that your computer meets the System Requirements.
Pay particular attention to the browser that you are using – Windows computers should be using Firefox (first choice http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/) or Internet Explorer (second choice). Mac computers should be using Camino (http://caminobrowser.org/)
Using the correct browser will solve the vast majority of technical issues. Systems other than Windows or Mac are not supported.

Q: Why can’t I log into the CogniFit / DriveFit with my username and password?
A: The Young Drivers e-Learning system has two, separate components. They are the e-Learning e-Experience (login here) and DriveFit / CogniFit (login here). The login credentials for e-Learning were automatically emailed to you from elearn@youngdrivers.com with the subject line: YOUNG DRIVERS of Canada, e-Learning Invitation.
When logging into CogniFit / DriveFit for the first time, you should choose “No, I am a first time user” at the “Welcome” screen. You will then enter the Group Code and Registration Code which was provided by your classroom instructor. If you did not get a Group Code and/or Registration Code, you should check with your Young Drivers Centre.




Q: What is CogniFit / DriveFit and why do I have to do it?
A: While the e-Learning e-Experience focuses teaching rules of the road, the CogniFit / DriveFit focuses on how your brain processes driving-related information such as time / speed estimation, width of field of view and how you divide your attention. The first step of the DriveFit program is an assessment of your brain's ability to process this information. The assessment is a mandatory part of the Young Drivers e-Learning course.

The training sessions that follow the assessment, while not mandatory, are incredibly valuable as you are learning to drive because they help train your brain in the key skills that allow for years of safe, collision-free driving. We strongly recommend that you complete the training cycle of 24 sessions (20-minutes each).




Q: I can’t see the “Next” button on the screen. Where is it?
A: Start by ensuring that your screen resolution is set to 1024 x 768 or higher.
If you are using a Windows PC, when you are at the login screen – press the F11 button on your keyboard. This will put the browser into Full Screen Mode which should allow you to see the buttons at the bottom. See the following screenshot. You might also click the "Hide Tree" button at the top left of the screen.




Q: Why can't I move forward to the next session?
A: To start - Please ensure that you are using the correct browser.
When you want to leave the e-Experience, you must close the window (or tab) labeled "ILIAS SCORM 2004 Player" first. Do NOT click on the stop sign at the top right of the screen. This window (or tab) holds the status, and it passes it along to our server, but only if the student is still logged in.
It is important that the logon window (or tab) labeled "YOUNG DRIVERS of Canada - ONTARIO", always be left open, and closed only with the logout button after you have completed your session.




Q: I did some e-Learning sessions a little while ago, but when I logged back in to do more, the system is starting me at the wrong place and doesn’t seem to remember what I did earlier. Did I lose all of that work? What do I do now?
Not to worry - you haven't lost all of your work. Most likely, this was caused by finishing your last session without following the proper procedure.
DO NOT click on the stop sign at the top right of the screen.

If you see the "Table of Contents" (also called the "Tree") on the left of the screen and it has green dots beside the lessons you've already completed, but the lesson name has a grey bar over it (see screenshot), here is the procedure to follow:

  • Mouse (the CogniFit / DriveFit assessment & exercises do not work well with a laptop trackpad or other built-in mouse. An inexpensive, corded mouse is sufficient.)
  • Please set the screen resolution to 1024 x 768 or higher. (Consult your computer manuals for assistance with this.)
  • The Camino browser is required (Safari and Firefox do not work for e-Learning). http://caminobrowser.org/
  • Flashplayer - http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
  • Adobe PDF reader - http://get.adobe.com/reader/
  • Your pop up blocker(s) should allow pop ups from yd.com
  • Make sure that your system is up to date by clicking on the apple symbol in the top-left corner of your screen – choose “Software Update” and follow the instructions.

PC Users

  • High-Speed Internet Connection

  • Mouse (the CogniFit / DriveFit assessment & exercises do not work well with a laptop trackpad or other built-in mouse. An inexpensive, corded mouse is sufficient.)
